Sliding Windows

OK Been prowling around the site for a few weeks.

I recently bought a 1990 TD camper and am a bit confused as to how I trace things.

Log book says it was originally a panel van. Actually the log book says it still is. Is that a problem?

So I can assume it has had glass fitted later? The sliding door window and the window above the sink are sliders and two of the four pieces of glass are cracked.

I know it was converted by a firm in Manchester but don't know who, thats about it really. It's in for some bodywork at the moment but I'm trying to source bits while I wait for it to come back.

So any experts out there who could advise me on where to go or what to do to determine the origins of the windows etc.

This is the first of many daft questions i will be asking as time goes on.

also the drivers window won't wind down, can the winder be fixed or where can I get a cheap one of those?

Apparently it's a leasure drive conversion circa 1995. I don't have any photographs at the moment as it's in having the body sorted.
Incidentally all the leasure drive pop tops in the garage are not the 'Westfalia' type but mine is?

Please excuse the treminology I'm a newbie.

One thing to remember.if its still registered as a van.You are limited to 50 mph on single carriageways. And 60mph on dual carriageways.

Log book says it was originally a panel van. Actually the log book says it still is. Is that a problem?

I don't think those speed restrictions are going to bother me ta.

The way it reads all T25s are classed as non car derived vans?

Anyway that discussion would not be in the right part of the forum so does anyone have a clue on the windows that might be fitted and where I might get some glass?

I've tried to contact Leasure drive with no luck so far.

one of the conversions , leisure drive , auto homes ,autosleeper , cant remember which usues glass the same size as factory windows.

you can measure it , as long as yours are smaller or the same size then use factory glass , you may need to trimm the hole larger.

new seals would be preferable anyhow as they are probably quite hard now so may not reseal very well if refitted.
the conversion from panel vans was all to do with new vehicle tax , was cheaper as a van earlier it was not so some early conversions were minibuses(factory windows)
some vans had there logbooks changed by the converter , some did not.

ref speed limits , call it a dual purpose vehicle , not a goods vehicle and its ok , if its converted into a camper by a proper company / or up to goverment spec,

(B) the area to the rear of the driver's seat must-

(i) be permanently fitted with at least one row of transverse seats (fixed or folding) for two or more passengers, and those seats must be properly sprung or cushioned and provided with upholstered backrests, attached either to the seats or to a side or the floor of the vehicle;and

The glass is etched with ' Tyneside' and there is a safety glass co. up there so I've e-mailed them. Also made contact with leasure drive so might make progress there. They only fitted two different window kits at the time but I can't find a name. On closer inspection the windows are not as weird as they looked. The stock looking oblong with rounded corners sits in a trim which mimics the shape of the rear panel. I don't have the bus at the moment (in for paint and tidy up) but my defender rear windows look very similar, a bit deeper perhaps.
