Just spent all day failing to fit some merc alloys. What a pain in the backside.
The first front went on ok, the nightmare started on the rear.
First off the split pin was rusted and sheared when I was taking it out.
Next I destroyed 2 breaker bars trying to get the 46mm nut off.
Without any way to get the nut off, I decided to get pull a longer stud through on the threads to find out how much to cut the studs down by, but the brake drum won't come off. I have backed off the break with the adjuster and bashed the brake drum from all sides with a mallet but it is well and truly stuck

Feel like this job is beating me, anyone have any ideas or know of anyone in the Liverpool area who could help.

drum will be rusted onto hub, so needs some good penetrating fluid, or hit the drum harder.. trouble is drums will crack.... (they cant have been "serviced" for a while then)

you need to use 3/4 inch drive bars as a min on the hub nuts.. 350ftlbs and rust means tight... again penetrating oil left for a few hours...

Didn't even know they made 3/4 drive, Will get one purchased
I will follow your advice on the drums today, if they break, they break, probably need renewing anyway if they are so hard to get off.

Thanks great post why is nothing ever easy

Dug out the lump hammer, two taps on the face and it was off the brake was in remarkably good condition
Think it was he Haynes manual that said tap around the sides, what a waste of time.
Will head over to machine mart tomorrow and get a 3/4 breaker.

Get it started with one of these a hittable spanner.

Thanks hacksaw bob, I haven't seen them before, look great, suppose they do a similar job to the impact air guns.
