H4 Headlights

Just a quicky!
I'm thinking of upgrading the round H4 headlight to something a bit better. On my classic car i have some clear lens 7" round headlamps that not only look good but work very well too! I also want to get away from the old style H4 bulbs, and even with 100/80w bulbs they are less than good!
My question is, has anyone fitted any clear lens ones to their T25 or do Mk2 golf lights of the same era fit?
Thanks in advance!

standard lamps are good enough
standard watt bulbs are more than enough!
check your earths / do a relay upgrade -
aim your lamps at a wall at night and switch to main beam , look at the image and pull the stalk and activate the main beam flash, the lamps should get brighter, this is due to the longer distance the voltage goes when using normal dip/ main beam
if you want to upp the bulbs get better quality bulbs , nightbreaker or similar, get the beat you can , they are usually 10-£20 a pair but worth it.

mk1 golf lights fit with very minor mods. Upgraded H4 ones are very effective but as said, the standard t25 ones are fine if you do a relay mod (search for it )
Here are some mk1 H4 lights on mine.

My twin squares are now STELLA......Two 45amp feed cables directly off the starter battery , two 40 amp relays, 27amp cable to each of the ellements, seperate earthing posts for each side behind the headlamps.....absolutely no voltage drop. Coupled with Osram Night Breaker Plus bulbs, as good as standard 4 square lamp setup gets. Well pleased.

I'm not totally unhappy with the original lights, there are a few issues we have though. We somehow have ended up with one old style H4 bulb fitting and one new style which means carrying extra bulbs around and also one light is corroding inside. As we need to change at least one light, i thought i fancied a cooler look with the clear lenses.
What needs to be done to the mk1 golf lights?

Doesn't using illegal higher wattage bulbs melt the headlight switch without the relay upgrade?

dont fit higher wattage bulbs as yes can melt the switch and the wiring is not designed for it .
fit BETTER bulbs not HIGHER WATTAGE like said daybreaker ect are same wattage just give a better light
then clean the earths or run extra earths and do the relay mod making sureyour headlamps themselves are clean with good reflectors.
if you are still having problems seeing then you may need to have your eyes checked

Thought so because the op said they were using 100/80 bulbs and may not be aware if impending switch melt

no probs ,
also the fact that the system is only designed for oem wattage bulbs( even thats a struggle) they will actally prob be dimmer than oem watt bulbs

I always thought my current RHD squares light the road up better than my old rounds (I have the relay mod) or is that because I blew £70 on them and a grill?
