Only a quick one.
Im ok with the wiring set up via the coil but is it ok to pick the positive up off the coil instead of under the dash and put an inline fuse on it? this will save me meshing about picking a live up under the dash.
cheers

i would have thought it best to have a short as possible feed for +ive if nothing else to cut down on chances of it ever shorting between coil and dash, its a long run.

On the rear later van fuse blocks. (Dont know about early vans) there are both switched and unswitched spade terminals. You could use one of these.

In that case you will have the spade terminals. They are on the rear of your fuse block. You need to unhook the block to access them. You wont see them just by looking at the block from the front.
