Push rod tubes

The mechanic put two push rod tubes on me van. He said he used the smaller tubes. The van is a 1.9 df water cooled. I've not seen any oil leaks but might there be a problem doing this. I've noticed the tappers are really noisy for the first 15 minutes every time I start it

What oil has he used ? It should be 15w/40 Mineral oil. Semi-pathetic will encourage tappet rattle and probably pi$$ out onto the road :|

I am sure that I have read somewhere, that Mk1 VW Beetle 1300 and 1600 Air-cooled push-rod tubes are "the same" as or compatible with the 1.9 waterboxer (DF or DG).

Regarding rattle on start-up, this would indicate possible wrong oil grade, low oil level, or even a cheap pattern oil-filter

This also assumes that the tappets are adjusted correctly, or if you have hydraulic tappets, that they were primed properly - depends if they had also been disturbed by your mechanic.

intersting as the standard pushrod tubes can onlybe fitted by undoing the head as they are compressed between head and block!

after market telescopic ones can be replaced without dismantling.

the tubes on the water boxer are the same as the 1600 ct Aircooled but different from the old Aircooled ones.

lenghtwise you just stretch them to length! i am sure there is a diammeter difference tho - but this will need confirming
