Running lean, mixture screw in or out?

Been searching the forum to get a definitive answer on whether mixture screw needs to go in or out to resolve weak mixture. There are posts either way. My 83 wbx DF with Solex 34PICT5 has been popping on overrun for last 3 years. Other jobs have got in the way, so not done anything about this since it drives ok (as much as 60hp can, at least). I have done simple checks of vacuum & exhaust leaks, but can't find anything. Plugs, leads etc. all ok. Checked last 3 mot emissions tests and consistent at CO of 0.12% which is very low (can be up to 4.5% for pre86 vehicles for mot). So thinking the weak mixture (giving low CO) could be the cause of the popping. Considering getting a gunsons gas analyser as cost is probably same as getting someone else to tune it anyway. But interested to get the correct answer on mixture screw direction for making it run richer. Can anyone confirm? Thanks.

Cheers,J
