Hi all,

I'd like to have a rev counter fitted to my '84 van, and wondered what the options are?

I understand the original dash rev counters are rare and expensive, and would this involve replacing the milometer?

For after-market solutions, will I need a possibly ugly additional pod fitted, or is there a tidy way to install one in the dash itself (cutting a whole and installing it flush)?

I look forward to your good advice?? Pictures would be handy??

petrol rev counters take the signal from the coil generally, diesel ones from the alternator
pre 86MY the vans don't have buzzer of doom so no tacho signal runs ffrom the engine bay to the dash so you'll have to put in the wiring required yourself, most aftermarket kits will come with sufficient instructions

vans built 86MY on have buzzer of doom so wiring already exists for tacho you can just t into that at the dash end

I've just taken the rev counter out of my van. Have a look at my recent post. Briefly, there's little point.
But a really sensitive one would be useful: might save leaning out of the van to listen to the misses (and missus?)
