Hi All,
Got some rain water coming in the front of the van - been reading the other threads about fixing this - but the rubber cab floor mats seem fixed in place with two approx 1cm diameter rivets / studs in each footwell. Will post a pic tomorrow. I'm guessing these were to hold the fabric cab mats in place at some point (not any more).

Any clues for a newbie on how to remove them?

its a 1984 autosleeper trooper / caravelle.

My cab mats (ex panel van) were held with such things and they just prize off the plastic rivet looking things. Go easy to prevent ripping or pulling off the rivet things as they are only secured to the body with glue

So top recap the rubber mats have holes in them that push over the black rivet things you speak off.

Be really slow and gentle with removing the rubber mat - it rips surprisingly easily and once a tear starts it spreads even easier. Almost impossible to repair effectively either....

I have repaired mine successfully with black Soudaflex - you can even fill in holes and put the cross hatching back.

When you say repaired do you mean so that it won't tear or rip again the moment you attempt to lift it in the future or is this just a filler while it's in situ? I'd prefer the former as mine has a slight tear and I'd love to prevent it getting worse if I ever need to move it again....

I glued the sides of the splits together and also reinforced the area with a wodge flattened over the area underneath. (I do like the sound of 'wodge' ) It hasn't come apart in over four years.

Ahh. I Evo-Stuk (paste tense of Evo-Stik ) a section of cloth to the rear, moulding the cloth into the square recesses in the underside 'grid' and let it all dry. Hasn't ripped yet but I wouldn't trust it to take too much stick.
