I've been looking at getting some cover for our LT ,but the RAC is saying cos its over 23y/o then its a no go (well via the website, might ring them)
I know a few get it as part of your insurance, but we don't so no point in saying 'we get ours via Footman James' or the like
Done the ADAC thing ,so again no point in saying owt about that
So who you with and what do they cover ?
Thanks
Mr Onion

Mark. If you are a member of, or join the caravan and camping club you can get covered through the RAC arrivals scheme as a member. There are no age or size restrictions and a load of other benefits like getting you to your destination if you break down on the way on holiday. Then taking you home again after your holiday. That's how we cover the RV. Have a look on the c&cc website.

Sod law strikes again.
For this who don't know. If your already in the RAC you just get a code from ccc when you join and ring the RAC with it. Otherwise join the RAC via the ccc.

Was about to post this question myself yesterday as last year I managed to get EuropAssistance cover via Brittany Ferries even though I didn't book their ferry. This year they would not let me take out the breakdown cover unless I had a ferry booking with them. Year before that I had Flux Rescue as part of the normal insurance but they no longer cover my postcode so can't use them now.
Today tried the C&CC after seeing posts above but they insisted on a recent full service by nothing less than a main dealer before they would cover anything older than 21 years. Don't think the local VW van centre would know what to do with my TDI Westy so declined.
Next stop the caravan club where the guy consulted with someone else and asked for a service history but not main dealer. Told him I had a few MOT certificates and receipts for parts, oil and coolant as do all servicing myself. Was told to fax all this in and they would make a decision.
Final stop was the P&O website as I am actually booked with them for the weekend. They have a discounted link to the AA and without asking for any evidence of my booking I entered my reg details for the van and it came up with £214 for the year (or about half that for 10 days) so have accepted that as intend to take another week abroad later in the summer. Think using the P&O website gets about 30% off the normal AA rates.
Hope that helps anyone - if P&O hadn't come up my last resort would have been ADAC but I had mixed feelings about them after seeing some of the posts.
Just hope now I don't have to use them.

We had to figure this out last month as we had cover included with our Adrian Flux policy but then discovered it didn't include Croatia . . . a week before we set off there. This problem expires in a years time when Croatia joins the EU but worth looking out for if you're planning to go there. We took a chance anyway, completing a triangular trip down to Croatia, across to the French med and back up through France. We did have to use the policy in France when the starter motor died and it's all very efficient, they had roadside assistance on the scene within an hour.
Postscript: The assistance people diagnosed bust starter and we were waiting (on a pleasant campsite) for a new one when I discovered by poking around that the fault was a broken joint on the lead from the solenoid to the starter. A temporary fix with a clothes peg did the job . . .
Overall though the Flux package seems a good one for EU countries

Just taken out RAC cover through the C&CC. I was told that restrictions on vehicle age etc are 'lifted' for C&CC members and that includes the optional European cover. I was assured that my 89 Westy would be covered - including repatriation to the UK if needed - provided the cost does not exceed the value. They couldn't tell me what value they would place on it but that it would be based on the 'Classic Vehicle Guide?' and I have the option of paying the difference if needed.
Cost was £157.50 for 12 months which includes max 5 UK callouts and 2 European.
I didn't think that was too bad given that it covers my other vehicles too.

Ho Aerovolito,
Did the C&CC mention anything to you about needing the a recent service from a main dealer? I'm just wondering if I just had bad luck in whoever answered the phone.

Nope, they told me the C&CC deal has none of the usual RAC restrictions. When I asked about adding the European cover later, I was told that I would have to go through a different department and that I would not qualify for the C&CC deal or discount. Needless to say, I purchased it there and then (it was only 78 quid extra for the whole year).

Cheers for the info everyone
I'm just waiting for my c&cc stuff to arrive and then I'll be up'ing my RAC cover.
All this 'service' stuff is interesting because RAC cover my Lt, Car and Bike , none of which have 'full service' histories and 2 are over 20 y/o
Again RAC have not ever mention the 5 call out stuff to me ,nor is it in anything their have sent me

I had them out to my 1982 van and 1972 Beetle several times and they never mentioned anything about age or call out limits. I thought the whole point of the RAC was that it's the individual that is covered and not the vehicle so they should come out no matter what you're driving.
