Wiper Relay Short

Got a new electrical fault that has sprung up at some point in the last month or so. Havent really been using the van that much but went to use it last weekend and found it was overheating. Also noticed the instruments were acting funny, temp gauge showing lower as well as the fuel gauge. Have been trying to work out where the fault is and so far have narrowed it down to this.

I have an immobiliser fitted and if I turn the ignition on without disabling the immob then all the lights on the dash flash correctly, the lights, indicators, wipers, etc all work fine. If I then try again but disable the immob then the wiper relay and one of the relays in the rear fusebox (by the engine) start screetching. I know I'm about to open a can of worms but does that fault ring any bells with anyone? A rough area to start would be greatly appreciated! I can't think of anything I've done apart from wiring up a new fog switch (more of a replacement but needed to add the tell-tale light) which I have removed for now until I can find the fault. I have also had problems with the battery recharging when the engine is running so I'm guessing the fault is causing this problem too.

Any help would be great,

Thanks,

Si

start with the earths above the fuse box they cause a lot of issues, it it has been stood has the windscreen started leaking? check behind the dash and under the mats for signs of moisture/corrosion. esp around the fuse box area.
