What's behind the padding in a Hi-Top?

My Hi-Top has a fold out bed that we don't need/want and i've seen some busses out there that have used that space as a spare locker with door. It's easy to get the bed out but how to go about making a door? What's behind the padding and before the roof itself? It feels like thin sponge and nothing else. Has anyone done this or something simalar? I don't really want to go cutting the liner with out knowing what to expect.
Cheers

Westy or other conversion?
If it's a Westy, then this thread over at Samba has some cracking photos of the strip-down of the hightop.

I suspect they're all similar, though - some kind of insulation between the inner and outer, together with a reinforcing framework.

If its an aftermarket conversion i.e. not a westy, then there's probably no frame in there, just carpet glued to the inside of the fibreglass.
If you remove the carpet, then wooden battens can be bonded to the fibreglass using sikaflex or similar and the cupboard fitted to these

Sorry , should have said it's a Carthago.
Thanks for the replys, very helpful. It's not a carpet, but a Vinyl type material (fake leather look), but assume it would be simialar behind it.

It's going to be stuck to something - whether that's the inside of the exterior, or whether there's an interior layer...
Is there an interior light or similar that you can remove and peer in behind? How thick does it appear to be around any roof vents or windows?

No lights or access to anthing easy to remove to see around. when i push in on it i'd say it moves about 1/4 inch, feels spongy too
