ok, so in the process of refitting the engine into the devon, but now have a bit of a problem.
i have ditched the single weber it came with and got my hands on a pair of oe solex's. they came with various hoses and the air filter housing but
1 - i dont know whats missing and
2 - i'm not sure where everything goes
and the old haynes 'remove all hoses making a note of where the come from' doesn't really mean much when you didnt have all the pieces in the first place!
does any one have a pic of the engine bay without the air cleaner or could someone tell me whats missing from these, or even if stuff is in the right place?
i am particularly confused over the large diameter inlet manifold and carb openings, outside left inlet manifold for the servo, got that, left carb top entry to airbox worked that out from haynes but dont actually have the hose. i have a bent pipe (balance pipe?) but not sure how it goes together. i think i have the small bore vacuum pipes sorted although i think i'm one of those short as well.
not sure if i made sense there but any help greatly appreciated
cheers
ian

Looks right so far. Once you've got an air box it'll be clearer. I'll scan a picture so you can see where the loose ends go.

I just noticed something else. Have you got the metal pipe that runs across the bulkhead? It connects to the right hand carb with a rubber elbow, and to the left hand carb via a rubber tee to the servo pipe?

thanks boxy, that would help
ok, so just discovered this pic in the wiki
i definitely do not have the middle pipe in the pic, but have the rest. i think this explains why i cant match all the holes in the carbs/manifolds with pipework.
any clues where i can get one? does it have to be solid or could i make it up?
cheers

The one in the middle of the photo is the vacumn pipe between the carbs I think. A non-metal one might collapse, especially once the engine bay is warm.
This post has got a photo showing the the vac pipes. The one that goes behind the air box fits from the tee goes to the "missing" metal pipe in your photo.

thanks again, now im really confused. every time i find a picture of an engine bay all the vac pipes seem to be attatched in a different way!!
the balance bar and t piece seem all important, so shall have to try and locate one

It would fry your noodle even more if you saw mine. completely different to every other one I have seen vacuum wise.

so regarding the balance pipe in the middle of the wiki picture:
one end has two outlets, one presumably to the inside of the left hand inlet manifold, but what about the other?
and the other end to the inside of the right hand inlet manifold, right?
im not actually with the van so cant go see.
cheers

I think the 2 pipes on the left side both connect to the left hand carb. 1 to the bottom just above the manifold and the one with a brass tube in to the top at the back. Think ive got a dodgy photo i have a look now. All being well I get a complete photo of mine 2moz to show you all cos mine is weird as heck. No vacuum thingy at the back or no air filter box just 2 piperx foam filters on it. Id like to see a pic of your weird set-up too Billybigspud see who`s got the strangest lol

this is my left hand carb showing the 2 connections of the middle balance pipe ( I think lol Im also not with the van)
On the top one sleeved in yellow tube you can see the brass insert tube going to the back of the carb. The bottom one is going to the manifold by the looks of things. Hope this is right
