Motorbike/Scooter Rack?

I'm thinking of buying a retro Lambretta LI 150, but would like to know if it's possible to carry it on the back of our 1989 2.1DG Trident Autosleeper.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to carry one on the back of the van and if so where would I be able to buy the carrier?

Also does anyone have any pics with a scooter/motorcycle on the back.

Forgive my naivety if it's not possible due to the rear engine.

Thanks,

Charlie.

I doubt one of these vans would carry a lambretta.Having said that.Your steering would be a lot lighter :)

Alternative of course would be a trailer, but for preference would prefer it if I could carry it on the back of the van.

I have a Dave Cooper bike rack that i have used with both a lambretta and a large framed Vespa, steering was fine and you can get them on and off easy.
Dave Cooper does have a website.

Thanks Jonno, I've already seen that site and they look just like I'd want. Was just concerned about the weight and light steering, but thanks for the reassurance. If I do decide to buy the classic retro lambretta that's the one I think I'll go for.

Cheers,

Charlie.

Weight 21 kg.

Cost: The light bar and number plate.

Oh and a bit of stock, gas and electric.. :)

Saving about € 400. :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

:ok

I know your scooter will weigh a lot more, but I have been using mine for over a year without incident, and is capable of carrying more weight.

Maybe add a strut from the rack to the scooter, as I've found that if you go over a speed bump a bit fast
the twistgrip taps the tailgate ( a little bit, not even a dent).

Converts into a ski rack in winter

:ok

Hi Sarran, Thanks for the input. Your creation looks just like the Dave Cooper one that I'm looking to buy. My van is an Autosleeper Trident and has the ladder on the tailgate so I'm a little concerned that the ladder might obstruct the rack, however Dave Coopers' have assured me it doesn't. I'm hoping that if anything the ladder may keep the bike away from the tailgate.

First thing is to go and see the scooter that I want to get, and once I have that, pop over to Dave Coopers to determine that it will work with the rack. If it doesn't, a trailer it will be!

Thanks all. It's about 110kg, and we went for a new Vespa because of reliability and weight. The retro Lambretta we were looking at was too heavy and at 47 years old, despite being completely reconditioned we had reliability concerns. Was apprehensive at first, but carried it a 1,000 miles through France and rode it for 350 miles.

Dazco,

It was more about the scooter being new, and therefore more likely to be reliable than a 46 year old retro scooter, the weight also played a part, rather than the make :D The main focus was the ability for it to be carried on the back of the van without it causing any driving problems which it does, and it had to be comfortable for two people, as it will mainly be carrying both my wife and me. Hence these were the factors that governed our choice, but I have to say that so far having done 1,000 miles on it I'm quite impressed. It's a bit like not buying a 23 year old T25 if you want reliability and no bills. :rofl

At first I was a bit apprehensive about carrying it on that carrier, but carried it on the back of the van for 1,000 miles with no problems whatsoever, apart from the scooter cover getting a bit tattered and torn!

Given all that, if I was just buying a bike for my wife and I to use, without it having to go on the back of the van, a 125cc Vespa would have come way down the list!!! :ok
