Quick question:

What would produce a burning rubber type smell from the front of the van after the radiator fan has cut in?

Thanks

Dan

I can confirm that it is none of the above! Ha

Still no idea what it is, definately a rubber smell, I was thinking maybe the radiator hoses or even the spare tyre? No idea!!!

I've never had the rad fan cut in, I know it works coz I shorted the is across.
Mines definitely not the spare coz I removed it to fit new clutch pipe and smell is still there.
I only get it on one section of uphill road on the way to work, maybe the smell if from outside and someone burns rubber?
I'll let you know when I find the cause of mine. :?

I had this happen to me in an old Golf. I used to wonder why my car started stinking of electrical burning every day on the way to work. Took me ages to realise I was always in the same place and the smell was actually coming from outside!

The fan has only cut in three times, all on very hot days and whilst in traffic. Probably doesn't need to cut in very often because the pipes run from back to front and back again which probably cools them down enough anyway!

I'll keep checking, may even short the fan to get it running, see if the smell returns.

I just found my alternator had packed up, Even tho the red tale tale light went out.
Might be worth a look to see what your voltage is, My smell could`ve been the internal winding burning out :idea
