All well and then dead!

Just got back from a weekend at Bearded Theory.

Van started well at the fest and drove home for 2 1/2 hours fine. pulled up outside the house. switched it off, went back 15 mins later to move it and there was just a very slow roll of the starter then dead. Now it does not even click when you try to start it.

both batteries are showing 12.6v.

This has had new earth leads, cleaned up crowns, new solenoid this year and two new batteries last year. All the lights etc are working and do not dim when i try to start it. so i was wondering if there may be a loose connection somewhere but i don't really know where to start looking. the leads on the starter look ok.

Thanks

Does sound like something has become loose during your drive home. Check all connections to double check they are all secure, and also check those new earthing points in case they have worked themselves loose.

Hello,

Check the auxiliary wires on the +ve battery terminal.

Check the spade connector on the starter, tag must be shiny

Check the 13mm nut on the starter +ve

Can you do a continuity test on your earth leads, see if there is a sudden rise in resistance if you wiggle the earth strap

Check your alternator output, and charging voltage 14.6volts is healthy.

Electrical faults can be so frustrating, because it is always difficult to test things under load without full workshop equipment.

Good luck,
