I was considering the RAC or Glynwood's own - I've got their insurance. Has anyone any thoughts/recommendations. I will be staying this side of the channel this year.

If u have a Halifax account then AA is free,ind you if u go abroad they charge loads. Personally I'm about to change from HIC to glynwoodinsurance do will get their insurance.

dont go to greenflag took them 4 and a half hours to get me home and i was only 9 miles away! first guy turned up disconected all wiring etc from dizzy left all fittings on top of engine and told me hall senser was toast so needed a tow, he refused to tow it saying my tow hitch was "like chocolate" so had to wait for a flat bed, following day found he had left my engine stripped and luckily the parts had stayed on engine during the recovery, it turned out it was the ignition amp not hall senser, when they rang to ask how i found the service i told them what i thought! now they have sent me a new renewel excluding cover for anything over 16 years old, so i wont be taking up there kind offer.

forgot to say first guy turned up so i asked have you worked on vee dub flat fours? he says i work on every f@@@@ ing thing mate, so hes stood there looking round engine bay with his clip on lead lamp so i said theres no battery in engine bay its behind the drivers seat, he looks at me as if im stupid and says no your battery is here somewhere it cant be at the front! at that point i knew he wouldnt get it running lol

I've had a very active AA membership and they've been great. They've only ever repaired the more straightforward stuff but they've always got me home or to my destination. I'd go with them again this year but I suspect they'd probably prefer I didn't

I've had the AA for years. I ALWAYS cancel every year and then buy cover again using topcashback which gives about £40 cashback meaning roadside assistance and relay is about £60.

I looked nito upgrading my halifax account but it says you only get aa roadside and home start. No mention of relay which is the vital thing to have if you want taking to a garage or location of your choice

Recovery is only useful if they'll transport it somewhere of your choosing.

Recovery of some description to get you off the motorway for free, a printed copy of the help list (in case of no internet) and a couple of hundred Euros for a ride on a flatbed to where you want to go...

I was referring to UK recovery. European breakdown can be bought seperately but beware of the companies that only cover you up to the book price value on the day.........what is the book price of your beloved van? Far lower than your valuation that's for sure.

Recently I was covered on my insurance and with an agreed value I knew they weren't going to write the van off rather than repatriate it

Ok, thanks. I was thinking of the cost particularly. With the AA I had basic cover with Halifax and added relay for another £50 or so but last year when I went to France for 10 days they wanted £100 or so for the cover whereas if I got the relay type service from Glynnwood they would cover uk and Europe for almost half of that figure. I'm sure u r right about what is covered !

Although I've never been a member myself I hear that the German ADAC service is excellent. (Cover in the UK is provided by the AA)

Tried all of the big 3 but have I have stuck with the RAC for the past few years due to multiple vehices etc.

My Wife and I have had them out 3 or 4 times in the past couple of years (for the VOLVO, not the VW), and they have been quick and efficient when they get to you. Love how they prioritise for a female on her own and the fact that the technician or call centre keeps you updated so you know how long before they arrive.

Hey-travelling to France next Monday and was about to upgrade my aa cover through the Halifax from relay to European. The guy on the phone wants to know if my t25 high top auto sleeper is over 3.5 tonnes-I don't think so but does anyone know?x

Check the re-patriation cover

Many only cover up to to the book price on that day and as a T25 isn't in any book it's could be a lottery as to how much they will pay to get you home, if at all
