Just information really for if anyone searches about replacing an alternator

During our recent trip to Spain we got to the Pyrenees and stopped at a supermarket. I then noticed the van was making a hell of a racket and traced it to the alternator. One of the bearings had gone.

So to cut a long story shorter we managed to make it the next 10 days with no problems as the alternator was still charging. Just that we woke every one up whenever we had to stop at lights etc.

When I returned home I took the alternator to the local auto leccies to see if it was salvageable. I was surprised to find the alternator had seized when it was turning just before I took it off.

The auto leccy ordered me a replacement for £70 and it was a Lucas LRA300. All that he needed to do was swap the pulley.

So if you are looking for a cheap relacement 65amp alternator that had a push in 3 pin connector block then the Lucas LRA300 is only £70.

I thought that was pretty reasonable :ok

Here's a good reference tool. Our original 65amp alternator was a VW part 068903025T
