Ive had a look at wiki but cant find what im looking for.

Ok so things i want to run.

A cool box fridge:

Do i just wire this to the leisure battery?

What do you recon about this leisure battery:?

Will i have enough power from the battery to run the thermoelectric fridge off it?

Does anyone rate the coolbox type above?


Do i need an inverter for all this?

Take care here as you seem to be really mixing up your understanding of voltages (from how I read the above).

That cool box will flatten your battery (over a stopover) at 4 Amps draw (48 Watts divided by 12 Volts).
Fridges than CAN be run off a battery are rarer than normal ones and expensive.
Gas is the best way to run a fridge = very cheap solution (assuming you already have gas installed for the cooker).

When you say you have 2 x 3 pin sockets (as per pic) then you say "Do i just wire this to the leisure battery" then here is the danger, are you getting mixed up with the HUGE difference between 12 volt battery power and 240 volt mains power ? They must NEVER be mixed together.

Then you say "Do i need an inverter for all this?" = Well inverters are only needed to power equipment that can ONLY be run off 240 volt mains. That cool box is 12 Volt not mains.

If I have understood you words correctly then, please, find someone who knows about this subject or you stand a good chance of :-

Wasting lots of money.
Wasting lots of your time and getting very frustrated.
Setting fire to your van.
Having fridge etc that does not work.
Electrocuting yourself (or others)

Basically i want to be able to plug a lap top into the van to say watch a film or do emails.
So i need a 3pin plug point. Can i do this without hooking up at a campsite?

I already have a split charge relay on my van. All i need to do is buy a l battery.

Do you think the one i gave a link to is good?

For the laptop you need a 12 volt to laptop adapter.

If you post the make and model of the laptop I will link you to a suitable one (not all around are of respectable quality)

Try and avoid inverters and mains use wherever possible. Hook ups are really only for heating and inverters are an inefficient way of powering anything really.

Havent got a laptop yet.

They must have had a bloody long extension lead!

A three pin plug is a 240v supply. If you're not plugged into the mains you can only get this voltage with an inverter or a generator. If you buy a laptop get one that runs a 12v adaptor. If you do you'll be able to run the laptop off the cigarette lighter socket (with the right adaptor) and not have to worry about hook-up, RCD's and death by electricity.

Trust what has been said already, it's sound advice. If you want to fit hook up there's a thread or two on how to do it and what to buy, but it sounds like you won't really need it

Yeh i defo dont want all that hook up stuff.

Pretty much most of what i need is set up in my van allready.
