Hi all
I noticed the other evening I have lost all my dashboard illumination including the heater control panel.
I have tried testing the circuits and seem to have a grey and blue wire that come out of the light switch and is common to the hazard and foglight switchs. Does this wire have a seperate fuse at all?
Headlights etc still work so it is just the internals.
Any help would be grateful....it's quite off putting driving with no panel lights.

Haynes show in their wiring diagram, "Typical lighting switch, number plate light" of all places, a fuse S50 10A between the "Instrument / instrument panel lighting control" (I would call that the dim / bright control wheel) and the instrument lights.

They do not show the physical location of the fuse, and the fuses / fusebox changed around '85 '86.

Wiring colour is grey/blue from the control onwards. IF you have a supply from the control, I guess you will have to look for the fuse. My only similar problem (on a T2 bay) was the control open circuit. (Burned out)

my dash board lights have a mind of their own!
they go weeks working then stop for weeks.
I have checked all wiring and fuses, as has the man in the garage. but still can't find anything amiss. So have now bought some fancy little blue led lights that plug in to the fag lighter. now I know how slow I am going, what time it is and how much fuel the wee beastie has consumed!!
Would like to get to the bottom of this mystery but it not urgent now i got my fancy pants leds!!

If it is just the instrument lighting that fails and the heater slider light stays on, then it could be a bad contact on the 14 pin connector where it joins the flexy printed circuit behind the instrument cluster. Take the top off as if to check the brake / clutch fluid reservoir, for access.

The foil strips tend to corrode and can break so handle with care, they can cause all sorts of problems.
They can be repaired with a little wire bridge solder across the break.

Thanks for the responses
I've battled away today and seem to have solved the problem.
I had a bad contact on the heater panel light that's now been fixed and works
And the main illumination seems to have had a poor circuit, it looks like the metal circuit has degraded in several places.
All the lights now work, but who can tell for how long!!

Cleaning the flexible printed circuit where the connector fits with a fibre glass pencil or alternative will clean up the connections like new.
