Hi folks, I am about to replace the none original exhaust on my 2.1 DJ Syncro with the correct one (thanks Patrick). The exhaust fitted was on it when purchased and has been fine if a little low (hence the damage) until recently, now it really is on its last legs.

My question is; are the mounting brackets fitted correct (photos below)? As something doesn’t look right, it may be they are just not mounted correct but I don’t have another Syncro to look at for comparison. If someone could advise, or better still show a photo or two of the right fitting it would be much appreciated, as I don't want to be left stranded once the exhaust is removed.

If they are completely wrong can someone please advise where a pair of correct ones can be obtained?

You have a mismatch of early and late parts.

Probably some cheapskate in the past has put the earlier, cheaper system on rather than just put the right thing on there.

How old is your van?

The silencer saddles are for a later van, the exhaust system you have is the earlier style one.
However there are some parts missing for it to be a true early system.
The early WBX system had some 90° angle pieces that went between the manifold pipes and the silencer, these aren't fitted to yours.

Thanks for the reply, the van is a 1988. I assume from what you said that the saddles are correct for the year of the van and just the exhaust is wrong. I now have the correct later exhaust and 'theoretically' this should just bolt on.

If thats on the Autosleeper it was put on by the previous owner to me who said it was a custom job and featured those sprung flexible knuckles. Never seen another one like it

It is the Autosleeper, I now have the correct O.E VW exhaust. so hopefully it should be a straight forward job!!
