Coolant Pipe Leak at join with Rubber Hose

Hi
this is probably a straightforward question to answer, but I'm new to this so have quite a few newbie questions.
My question:
I've noticed a small drip leak from where one of the metal coolant pipes joins a rubber hose before it enters the engine bulkhead. The hose is secured to the metal pipe by a jubilee clip, but it looks as though the join is failing as the rubber appears to coming away from the pipe, and it is damp. This is obviously going to need replacing.
But what size and type of hose should I get? I've read a few posts on hear about re-inforced hoses with metal ferules, and spiral hoses etc. etc. but it isn't clear to me what the best thing to do is.
It is quite a long section of rubber hose aswell - about 10-12", which strikes me as a little odd. Is this longer than it should be
The other metal pipe seems to be longer without so much rubber hose to connect it to the engine.
cheers
