Temp problems early van late engine

Ok so my van according to the gauge seems to be running hot (runs on 3/4)
I was told it was a re-con 1.9 but says DJ so could be 2.1
It's a 1983 but has a later engine fitted I.e stat housing at gearbox side
I have fitted a new stat but still the same
I have tested the regulator on the rear of the clocks all ok
The thing that says to me it could be the gauge is the stats not opening until at least when gauge gets to 3/4?diff
And the rad fan is not cutting in?

If it is a 2.1 and a later engine do they have a different temp sender fitted? Could there be a conflict if it has a different sender fitted

Should I just get a separate coolant sender kit fitted to a separate gauge?

The early pod and reg will probably be getting the wrong signal from the late sensor or showing it as the signal from the early sensor ... sounds like another early meets late issue.

The early sensor is a single wire screw-in .. http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/shop?page=s ... ory_id=119 while the late housing sensor has two wires and is held in place by a clip pushing it against an O-ring ... http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/shop?page=s ... ory_id=119 that's about all I can tell you.

Someone with better electronic knowledge may be able to help, sorry but I can't.

Yes mine has a 2 pin round black sensor on the back of the stat housing, looks like the wiring has been modified also?

Just wondering if anyone else on here has done a later engine swap???

Hi cookie,

I have a late engine in an early van.....but its away having some work done at the moment. But have never had any problem with the temp sensor...It gets to just over half way, then the stat opens and it drops slightly to rest on the LED. But mine is deffo the 2.1, and the temp switch clips into the plastic thermostat housing which is on the passenger side of the van (RHD) nearest the back seat. Does that make sense? Originally a 1.9, so there are some wiring issues...namely BOD, where the wiring in the van cannot support the twin oil pressure sensors, so one is just going nowhere! lol

Thanks for the info, sorry to be a pain but any chance I could have some pictures of your engine bay cooling pipes just to make sure my hoses are located right please, you can mail them to andrewcooke77@sky.com

Thanks Cookie

Have you still got the oil cooler fitted as mine is not fitted??? And pipes just caped off??

Also where does the carb pipes feed from and go to??

Thanks

Yes our's has the oil cooler plumbed in.

The hose tie-wrapped to the alternator bracket goes to the carb from the hose below the header tank, there's also the hose to the manifold from behind the thermostat housing.
