Just removed my head to put a new gasket in, and noticed the head is cracked between each vale.

Does anyone know what the difference is between a 1.6 head and a 1.7? as having difficulty getting hold of a 1.7 one

Cheers.

No they are not - there was that saga with the guy from across the Atlantic who needed a new one for his 1.7 - the 1.6 was no good. The 1.7 heads are available.

If you only have cracks in the head between the valve seats they are perfectly normal. If however they have encroached upon the valve seats then you will need a new head. Most people's heads have these cracks.

Thanks for the replys, yeah its cracked between each set of valves and are not cracked down to the valve seats, so after reading a bit online, does seem pretty common, would you recommend having the head skimmed before sticking it back together?

Cheers, thanks for the help.
