I have noticed that my rev counter isn't working as it should. The rev counter goes up slightly when I pull off the throttle and the needle seems to be moving about when it should be still, any ideas? :?

I have looked through the wiki and have had no luck.
many thanks Rob.

Have you check the W connection on the back of the alternator?

Poor connection is likely. AngeloEVS might be your best bet, he is one of those rare creatures with an oscilloscope and is not afraid to use it. No. 9 is the connector on the 14 multiplug under the dash.

Its a JX loom using the AAZ ancillaries so not sure if it even has a W connection, I seem to remember it having a plug. I have checked the main connector and everything under the dash, and that all seems to be ok as far as connections are concerned.

I was on nights last night and then watched Westham in the playoffs so didn't get out to check the engine bay side of things, will do that tomorrow.
Funny thing is I didn't notice it before I adjusted it via the tiny screw, it was reading a bit high due to being setup for the JX, but maybe I just wasn't paying attention because I knew it was out.

I found the problem.....
The part of the alternator where the plug connects is broken, move it one way nothing, move it the other way and it works.
I hope you like my repair, cable tie keeping the offending part where it should be. :ok
