New fangled elec fuel pump fitted and engine now racing

Hi All,
our 1981 Aircooled has been stood on the driveway for a few months, wouldn't start initially thought it was a battery issue, got the nice AA man out and discovered it was a fuel pump problem, he now has a new fangled electric pump. Just got it back from the garage and the engine is racing - like the pedal is down constantly.
It didn't have this issue last time it was used, garage said it might be the cable .... not being mechanically minded, I was wondering if anyone would know would this problem be related to the new pump or is it likely to be the cable or something else ?
Thanks

is the big spring disconnected off the end of the throttle bar?
you need to check the carbs are not flooding due to the pump being to high pressure too,
last thing you want is petrol all over in the engine bay just above the very hot exhausts.

I thought that electric pumps on non-pressurised (i.e. non-injection) systems were always regulated ?

dont know what pump has been fitted !!
the peirburgh ones are pulse pumps and are correct pressure, but JK crap ones need regulator and needs to be set at 2 max iirc!

Yep, that would make sense ... same as an Ebber pump.

Thanks, I haven't got a clue which pump they have fitted ... i am certain it's not a JK one though, it was ordered and delivered within hours !
Like I say I'm not mechanically minded, he will be going back tomorrow. Thanks for the info, i'll mention that stuff to the garage, don't fancy a T25 BBQ

you need to look before you drive it!!
lift the engine lid and start it, you will soon see if its pissing petrol out....
you will also see the spring and if its connected.

just where it says throttle you see the big spring
