Dragging clutch - sometimes!!

Hi All,I have a slight problem. On the way through town the other day I had problems getting the van in gear .I eventually turned off the engine then engaged the 1st start van & off we go.It seems to be worse when the engine is hot and through town as you are working the clutch with more standing starts. After a run on open roads you can come to a stop, sit in neutral and selecting the gears is ok .The gear change is fine while moving it is only a problem from standstill. I have lubed up all the linkages front to back.and checked the fluid level which seems alright -no obvious leaks. It can be a pain to get gears one minute and then you have a few standing starts then it is ok again drive around a bit then a pain ,then ok again etc etc. The clutch bite point is in the middle and when driving if you dip the clutch it releases and you still have plenty more for...further release. is it a clutch on way out ? spigot bearing ? do you think it is worth bleeding the clutch ? but why does is seem fine 70% of time and anly a paint 30% any thoughts??

Well I didn't get any replies but I know there were 29 views so I will post the results back as it may help with someone if they have a similar problem in the future. I endend up without being able to engage any gears with the engine running due to the clutch not disengaging. so got the bus well jacked up.there was e bit of a weep from the slave cylinder ( only noticeable when I squeezed the rubber gaitor) so changed it and problem seems to be gone .it still didn't quite seem right inn my head though why it worked sometimes, so I stripped the old slave cylinder out just for interest really .What I found was there was 'Crusty crud' that the o ring seals sometimes passed but then let a bit of fluid get passed and sometimes the piston stopped on a lip of crusty crud which would stop the full movment of the piston and hence not fully disengage the clutch.I cleaned this up by scraping with a flat blade screw driver and now the piston moves fully. Obviously now though a new slave cylinder is in place as the old seal had been a bit knackered.still £37.0 later problem fixed .incidentallt the one I took off had a bit of a corroded body and was an original VW part so maybe the original ?? not bad at 23 years
