hi.
i have been getting a mild knocking sound below the handbrake area.its like something is loose and minor bumps bring it on.i have been under and tie wrapped everything i can see so its not loose but still it comes.
in the past i have replaced almost every bush under there(i know they can fail at any time)
the only thing i havnt changed is the ball joints.
anyone have any ideas as to what it could be ?

Top end of the shockabsorbor loose?

Could be the petrol tank equalising breather or the water pipes have come loose and are knocking on the floor to get out ?

Could be worn ARB bush(es), or a broken drop link ... depending on your definition of

mild knocking sound

mine does this I checked all the above bushes already mention, found it was the nearside top wishbone buses worn. Not that straight forward to change so check for play on them first as you'll need a grinder and a mig welder to fit new ones.

Wishbone bushes make a chatter developing into a clatter by which time you can feel the play through the steering wheel over rough ground ... i.e. cobbles (or 'roads' as we call um north of Watford )

Mine where defo mild knocking noise from same area, I spent ages faffing about checking all the arb links, shocks, tie rods bushes which were all fine. Trouble was the it would mainly only do it driving, could'nt simulate it by bouncing the van up & down.

Belive me road down south ain't much better

ive already changed the wishbone bushes on both sides..but this dont mean one has had its day already.
your right they are a bit of a faff but it got rid of that dogs toy noise that was driving me crazy on every bump.its possible they need doing again.this weekend ill investigate further..i cant at the mo coz the missis wont stop going out in it now ive done an upgrade on it

Hi Dave - Did you get to the bottom of this one? I'm having the same issue in my van and its driving me nuts!

sorry robin,im ashamed to say ive not done it yet.i was thinking it could be the drop link bushes as its only very slight bumps it does it on...but i havnt had a look yet

when i do get it sorted ill post up what was the problem
