1Y will not turn by hand. Please help!

Hi Folks,

I feel slightly cheeky making my first post, cap in hand and looking for advice!

However I'm new to the T25 world so hope you'll be gentle on me.

The problem I have is as follows. I have a 1Y engine that I'm about to drop into my T25 van and while trying to lock up the camshaft to change the timing belt, the crankshaft will only turn through about 180 degrees and completely locks up either side.

I never saw the engine running but the bloke who sold it to me reckoned it was 100%.

Any thoughts? Would greatly appreciate any help.

Many thanks
John

well youve admitted your cheek and come cap in hand , now s-d off....

err, i would whip the rocker/cam cover of and have a looksee, sounds like either a valve dropped in/bent (and why) maybe belt snapped
try have a look and then come back , and you can now nip to general chat and intro you and the van. :rofl
mm
oh and wlcome

Is there a cam belt on it?

Things to consider:

Its possible the timing is out and the pistons are touching the valves - turn the bottom crank and the cam shaft and you will find things move again. You have to keep moving them until the timing is spot on- then fix the cam belt and turn the whole thing (by turning the bottom pulley).

I also had this issue when a newly fitted GSF oil pickup pump was hitting the crank shaft / piston rods. I had to grind a bit off...

Good luck

Ringo

Are you sure its not the compression, take out the glow plugs and see if turns easier.

Thanks v much for the help lads

Took the sump off and was hoping it was the pump, it wasn't.

Gave it another couple of cranks and with a shove, it does now rotate. Quite stiff though at two points each turnover.

Came with a cam belt on so hoping timing not off - I'll check this tomorrow. I'll stick a few pics up once I get the engine in (hopefully!).

thanks again! :ok
