I just converted my 83 lhd with old style fuses by the Cruz/Wiki method of cutting the wires coming from the wiper switch and wiring into a relay which i have mounted on the far right of the relay block above the fuse box. Whilst mounting it at least on one occasion i ran the 53s /m wires back to front and either this or something else blew the fuse, checked all the wires and put it back, re-connected the battery and new fuse. It works like this now;- Top (2nd) setting gives fast wipers, middle (1st) setting gives nothing at all. Off setting is off as it should be. Lower setting (-1) give normal speed wiping unless but occasionally wil give a delayed wipe function. Very similar to this conversation between silverbullet and Simon Baxter

OK. One click down for intermittent, sometimes (very rarely) works. Usually just goes wipe#click#wipe#click at usual slow speed. I can hear the relay clicking between every wipe.

Up two positions to slow wipe, nothing.

Up again to fast and that works ok.

Switch off and it parks with the blades about 20 dgrees above horizontal. Same for wash/wipe, parks in the wron place. So...more than one fault or just a dicky front wiper relay?
Simon Baxter: Motor relies on the slow speed working for it to park.

Intermittant is also on the shunt winding.

When you're on high speed and turn it off it slows down to the shunt winding then parks.

If the motor is knacked and the low speed doesn't work then it will never work on intermittent, nor will it park.

Try a relay but suspect the motor is kerfurtled!

SO.......i got the relay from a scrappy and may have been a bit wet so untested etc. Any ideas? Seems like best to gte another one, anyone got a 19 relay spare? Cheers.

Also found this apparently unconnected to anything, must have been around fuse box area when I took it all apart. Funnily nothing else at front end does not work properly which seems odd as it appears that this double bullet style female connector should be joined to something?

Can't help with your problem but when you go for a new relay try a 99 relay instead of 19 as these give adjustable timing on the intermittent feature. You adjust the timing by turning the int on then off, wait till the desired time has elapsed then turn the int back on and the relay remembers the timing.
