iphone to pc monitor

At the risk of sounding as if I've missed the boat here, I have an iphone4 and get all freeview TV channels on it as well as games blah blah. I'm on an unlimited data package and I gather theres an iphone to VGA as well as iphone to hdmi cable. Would this not be a very compact solution to TV when camped (if i wanted it) being as all I need then is a powered monitor. I do have a flatscreen monitor that tuns from a 12v source spare.

Thoughts? Anyone else done this?

The only drawback I can see is these cables don't appear to have a USB breakout to power the iphone.

Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0KUPHLN_YQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Well, other than a DIY one and not sure I'd want to risk that with a brand new phone: http://www.instructables.com/id/Adding- ... A-adapter/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Last time I tried this on an iPod the lead came out the jack plug.

The other downside is having no 3G phone coverage. Which seems to be everywhere I camp!

The wife is on three and that has far more coverage than Vodafone.

3 is a network operator ( oh and coincidentally the total number or users who have a signal at any one time on their Network :roll: ) 3G is a data stream. All ( modern) phones use 2G and 3G for receiving data.... think of it as 2G = dial up speed 3G = broadband speed , 4G is just about to come online, super fast broadband.

3G is required to stream video/TV , I barely get a signal good enough to make a phone call in my favourite camp site in The New Forest... and I have 2 phones, Orange and Vodafone.... so I think you may struggle unless you start camping in City centres :wink:

Unless you miss read that you need to give us a bit of credit.

Three 3G coverage is generally a lot better than Vodafone judging by the amount of times I have to tether off my wife's iPhone.

I am very impressed with three and will be going with them next. And no, we don't just camp in city centres!
