charging lesuire batt on hook up ?

hi all ,
just wondering if when i am on electric hook up is my lesuire batt being charged ,i have a 1989 1.6td westy california ?

if you still have the charger fitted (under rear seat) and its working, then yes. easiest way to tell is to put a multimeter on the leisure batt when your on hook up

excuse my ignorance but what will tell me that it is charging when i put the multimeter on the leisure batt ??

A higher voltage than you'd get if you were not on hookup or driving along. Make the comparison.

Excuse my ignorance too, but what is this charger under rear seat? I have an autosleeper trooper.

Don't think Autosleepers have them as standard. Mine didn't.

The charger on a westy is under the rear seat, UK conversions are normally zig units?

Its a black box under the rear seat on the sliding door side.

As others have said....if you still have the original Westy charger under the seat, then both batteries (Leisure and starter) should be charging with the hookup lead plugged in.

Simply use a volt meter (set to DC volts) across the two terminals on each of the batteries in turn.
you should see a volt meter reading of around 12.6 volts with the hookup lead not connected, rising to over 14 volts the second the lead is connected and turned on (same for both batteries)

If there isn't a change then the charger unit is faulty in some way (often the internal fuse blows but obviously one step at a time).
