Hi Guys, with alot of trouble I have managed to replace all the manifolds along with a new empi gt exhaust which sounds lovely. the only problem is it doesnt pull away as fast and seems to be holding back. would this be an air or fuel problem. I would of thought that the empi exhaust would help it breath better?

Empi exhausts are a waste of money in my opinion
it'll rot away soon so you'll be getting another anyway.

as for your problem was it like this before the empi box was fitted?

No it wasnt it was much better pull away

Restricted gas flow due to a rubbish exhaust by the sound of it. Empis are useless.

Not what you wanted to hear mate. I just stick with standard stuff, the only thing that gives me more grunt is a tail wind!

If you have not done so already, It would be a good idea to get some decent heat proof paint on that exhaust as they tend to go rusty very quickly so ive seen.
Did you have to bend the valance to get it to fit?
I imagine its the difference in back pressure thats lost the low end torque.

empi gts actually rob power, i prove this on a dyno.

Sorry, you must be a bit miffed by the comments on your Empi exhaust
At least you did not have to pay a huge amount for it, they are the very cheapest system for our vans.
Also it won't last much more than a year

I stand to be corrected, but I think the manifold pipes are all the same for the earlier system, if I am right you could just buy a back box (Stainless if you can afford it) and bolt that on = 1/2 hour job on a newly fitted system like yours

Not familiar with the empi but if it came with a header pipe (ie four pipes to one large flange), just throw the can away and fit a three-bolt suzuki or kawasaki muffler. If you look in the Wiki under exhausts - custom, you'll see how I adapted mine. I got a noticeable power boost doing that and several have fitted the same or similar. Big bike cans seem to have just the right amount of back pressure and you can pick them up for £20 in stainless. The only downside is you may have to cut part of rear apron to accomodate it (depending on what you get). Not regretted mine and it sounds great too. NIce rumble without being an annoyance.

Ah, I don't think CovKids suggestion will work with that setup, but you can fit a standard (early type) silencer easily

yer i think I will. I just have trouble with the fact that something like the wedge should have the option of a variety of exhausts that improve the performance of the van. I have been rebuilding Lambrettas and vespas for years and there are hundreds of different types of exhausts, mainly build by Germans to improve the reliability and performance of the engine. yet there seems to be only four maybe five options for my type of van. So I have contacted a friend of mine at rayspeed and we will be looking at building one together. watch this space
