fitting a oil pressure gauge ( 1984 DG engine)

I’m having problems with my oil light. Everyone I ‘ve asked says it’s a common fault, and it could be down to a fault in the dashboard , I’ve changed the oil pump, fitted new heads and valves and changed to thicker oil. I want to fit an oil pressure gauge, my oil pressure switch is in-between the pushrods. Will there be any problem fitting the new sensor to go with the pressure gauge as it fits underneath the pushrods, will I have a problem tightening up the sensor, has anyone fitted a pressure gauge with a one sensor engine

Oil pressure gauges are commonly fitted.
and it's not a common fault :roll:
I hope you fitted the correct switch (0.3 bar blue) to try and eliminate the light?

I have a one switch engine..(it's not a sensor BTW it's a switch)
any way ...you have 3 choices
Using a mechanical system with oil light (which I use )
An electrical system with oil light
Either of these without a light.

you will need a remote extension for what ever you decide, which plugs into the oil pressure switch hole (M10 X 1) then you can attach whatever you want

fitting a gauge will not stop the light as you know.

Did the new heads and valves make any difference :shock:

Seriously though, are you not going at this from the wrong angle. If your oil light is playing up, esp on the single switch (earlier) engine, then the very first thing to do is get a garage to do a hot oil pressure test. Based on the results of that you can attack the real problem, worn shells / shaft, oil pump, or (hopefully) just the engine switch or oil light wiring. (that latter fix is a bit more complicated on the later engines with 2 switches and the "DOPWS" thing)

Not saying there is owt wrong with having an oil pressure gauge as well as sorting the problem out of course ;)

btw, oil should be mineral 15W40.

What is the 'problem' with the oil pressure warning light, Is it random/intermittent, comes on and stays on, etc.

the light still flashed when i put the new switch on it was blue but 0.25BAR . Cheer for the remote extension idea

putting new head and valves defiantly made the camper run much better,smoth and defiantly get more to the gallon.

after about 10mins off driving the light will flicker when stationery but will go off when the van is moving, then after 45mins the light will stay on when moving

As mentioned, a pressure check is best advice. My only experience of suddenly experiencing low oil pressure on a healthy engine was the oil pressure relief valve sticking in the gallery and not seating properley but this was on a different engine/vehicle. Best of luck!
