If Guernsey the same fiscally as Jersey, there is VAT to pay but not import duty. I recently (2 months ago) checked with the revenue on this on a Jersey based camper. Yes, this does mean that VAT will have been payed initially when it was purchased (if within the UK) and would be due a second time on the same vehicle :? . Needless to say a goods many Chanel islanders 'import' their vans without declaring and paying the VAT (and getting the receipt at the port of entry) and leaving the purchaser to pick up the VAT tab when they try and register it in the UK. It would be a shade over £900 for the vat on this van, however it is up to the revenue to decide what your van is worth they dont necessarilly have to agree with what you payed for it...

Also, if it was originaly reregistered in the UK - there isn't a fee for registering it again, it just reverts to its original registration (Or did when I registered a vehicle from the UK that had gone to Ireland).

Woo-hoo, that saves £38.
