Lats year I bough a T25 1988 1.9

She fab fine to start with

Then She had power loss so I took to a Vw specialist who said the carb so I have a new webber carb fitted and throttle cables fitted, air filter and fuel filter.

She run fine for a little while then again loss power this time the engine stopped, so I returned to the Vw specialist who said they need to set it up again which they did and it run fine for a while, then again loss of power so I returned they said it was the file pump, so I got them to put on a new fuel pumps and service.

Six months later again loss of power so I have changed the coil the leads the plugs the thermostat, fitted an new thermostat I have cleaned all the connections electrically that I could find on the engine bay electrical system, but still loss of power.

I am losing the will to live, can any one point me in the right direction please.

She a great little van

Can you say what the symptoms are of power loss- i.e. does your carb spit or backfire....does it juddr or anything...is there any other accompanyine symptoms. Just from a cursory glance if you have ruled out (not saying you have necessarily fully) fuel delivery through the pump and mae sure no blockages like worn filter and put in a new carb etc and have new ignition system then a couple of othe thngs i would do. Check the main earth's to engine and also the contacts in your main fusebox up front. Is it possible that there is dodgy or inconsistent compression leading perhaps to loss of power when hot? OTHER THOUGHTS.

Does it run hot or cold or ok..according to your gauges at least.
Any water of oil loss?
Does engine smell hot when power loss?
Under what circumstances has it hapened.

Finally it looks likely that the carb swap was a waster of money and a misdiagnosis- i would not take it to a garage who suggested that as sadly those Webber carbs are not the answer to anything for these vans- its unlikely to be a main issue and will not help. You could ask for money back but does not look likely at this stage. If you are in Essex you could try Dave the engine man at Elite- little Dave not big Dave though :idea IMHO.

In Cambridge you could ask type2 detectives if they know T25's , they've got a good rep with the bay folks. Otherwise sound more like an intermittent electrical fault now. Tim

It definitely should not do that  (and it is bad for it too)

If the "VW specialist" has set it up (as you say) then they must have set the ignition timing up incorrectly (unless it has been adjusted subsequently).

You need to get that timing checked before you wreck the engine !
