WATER PUMP HELP PLEASE! :)

Water coming out of hole at bottom of water pump - which we have been told is the escape hole for the water when the pump goes and we were arranging for a local VW garage to replace it (it happened whilst away so cannot use my normal mechanic)
We topped up the water but it came straight out of the hole, so not driveable but the garage concerned have told us to collect some stuff to put in that expands and seals the hole so it can be driven, however Im not sure on this and wanted peoples opinions.
Also would it be better to get it recovered back home and either take to regular mechanic or attempt to do ourselves?
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated as due to drive down to organise tomorrow,
Thank you

I would advise against putting any radweld type stuff in as it will cause no end of future problems and is near impossible to get rid off,
I dont know your abilities nor the time effort distance to get 'home'
doing it yourself if your up to it, but what if stuff goes wrong that can and have you all the tools etc
get it back to yours and get your usual man on it
mm

I certainly wouldn't drive it with a failed pump gland.

If they have recommended putting any type of sealer in a T25 system then do not trust them to do the pump !!

Don't drive it the pump has gone and you will crack the head if it overheats.
Centro, they said sunny south coast so it won't be Portsmouth.

I assume that would mean something provocative to someone who likes football ?

Thank you thank you to your replies, especially MM & Ghost123uk, your thoughts matched mine and when I mentioned it to my mechanic this morning he also agreed!!
I did in fact arrange for recovery to take us back to my local and reliable guy who I trust with my van!!
Thank you again, sometimes I get a gut feeling that somethings not right and its great I can clarify things on here!!

10th hole is 5mins walk from mine.
I asked for your location as I would recommend Bug n Buses in Portsmouth fixing your pump. They did mine last week.

Just noticed, that nut at the very top of your picture appears to have very little bolt in it

(ok I know it should read "stud" but it didn't scan as well

)
