I recently bought a 1988 syncro 2.1 petrol. The metal covers that sheild the push rod tubes area (not the tubes themselves) are rusted to hell. It appears that you can't get replacements for these. They look awful and rattle. Any suggestions on what can be done with them. They don't look easy to fabricate as they are dish shaped. What are they supposed to be doing anyway?

Most obsolete tinware can easily be fabricated in aluminium unless anyone has any S/H ones?

Hi Bob, have you not answered your own question there

I mean you don't want a stone thrown up from a wildly spinning rear wheel, up that lovely stony hill your syncro is making mincemeat of, holing a pushrod tube and causing you to have to get a trailer home, do you. And do you know how big a job replacing pushrod tubes is on a WBX

Mind you, on our 2WD road van we lived without those covers for 6 years or more

£83 or an hour at most bending some sheet steel or aluminium. I know which one I'd choose. They don't even have to be box-like. A curved one with supporting tags would be fine.

just drafted a massive reply to all you guys (took me about half an hour) and then leaned on my keyboard and deleted the lot!

In summary - thanks for all your replies and photos. I'll make a boxy cover myself

I'm new to this and had loads more questions.

It's worth noting on this shot that I'd just changed the silencer so while that was off (on the 4 poster @werk) I fitted a refurbished engine bar ... note the clean fasteners where the silencer heat shield is attached to the extended engine mount bolts and the smaller central M8 nut on the cradle.

I'd also changed the gearbox oil (note the stain) the day before with 4 litres of this ..



and dropped the engine oil & filter and after this shot was taken replaced the rocker covers , gaskets and springs and refilled with 4.5 litres of 15w/40 mineral oil.
