A simple air to air system or a more complicated water to air system. Which is better ........... lets discuss.

a simple naturally aspirated system unstressed

got to be air to air but only if you can achive air temps required

I've got room for a turbo in my engine bay but I don't think the gear box would like 300ish bhp too much.

Air to water if you want a tidy instal without chopping bodywork.
Or if you don't mind getting the tin opener out, fit an intercooler.
I don't really like mods that mess about with the body, for me it's a charge cooler.
I like mods that can be reversed in the future without leaving scars behind.

Yes, with enough airflow, should achieve the lowest inlet charge temps. But a good one for a T25 would generally break Simon's rule of 'do no permanent harm'... getting that amount of cool clean air (hopefully not straight off the baking hot tarmac either) through an intercooler anywhere near enough to the engine is quite a challenge.

I'm running a chargecooler set up and since it's been in there I've had the original 'pace' pump fail and nearly set fire to the van and am still to this day vein plagued by a continual very slow water loss from the system.
I can't for the life of me track down the leak, my suspicion are that the leak only becomes present once the pipes are warm and/or that there may be an internal leak in the cooler itself.
But like Simon has said the toss up is cutting holes which I'm not keen on either. But no doubt I think an air to air system would be the least hassle and far more reliable.

...and can produce marginally lower charge air temps, through not having an intermediate fluid medium (provided its not offset by very long tortuous air hoses )

Well I have all the kit available to me for both systems but I favour air to air. However as Simon has suggested, I'm not a fan of body mods either. Whichever I do I will have the cooler made to fit behind the rear light. Its the only place really for it

Tim's looks like a good one for scooping up gravel, dirt, leaves, rainwater, hot air and then be a bugger to keep clean. A choked cooler is no use to anyone...
(no offence meant Tim, but I can't see it as a solution)
