Club Joker 1.6TD JX - Curious "electrified" fuel filter?

Please can anybody tell me what these 2 sets of terminals on my fuel filter housing might be for?
Forum Pic.jpg
Haynes doesn't cover T25 diesels and the orange JK T25 diesel manualette illustrates a filter without any wiring emerging at all.
I thought it could a fuel cutoff feature perhaps remaining from the old (disabled) Bosch alarm fitted to Jokers but Bentley shows me the cutoff lives on the fuel pump block.
I've lashed up a new fuse but I'm baffled as to what its for - unplugging either the top, bottom or both terminals on the filter housing seems to have no effect on engine runninand the little bubbles continue to travel merrily along the transparent fuel pipe regardless.
Could it be an advanced automatic water puddle sensing/purging contraption perhaps? Nah, that's just daft!

Red ceramic 25mm fuses are rated at 16 amps
Red blade fuses are rated at 10 amps.
Fit a Blue blade fuse.

Really not sure of the relay's purpose..

You're right of course!
Its a temporary lash-up, and judging by the state of the old fuseholder, I tossed up between 10A & 20A in my toolbox and figured 10A will give me a positive indication while erring on the side of safety. I'm not sure any current actually passes through it.
Any idea what the twin connections on the filter housing are?

First I thought it looked like some sort of pressure switch and then my thoughts went to diesel heating...to prevent gelling perhaps...all a guess though.

Looks like a sensor of some kind. Maybe a temp sensor to trigger some sort of fuel heating system elsewhere?
I'm intrigued now.

Thanks for the input here gentlemen.... makes sense since German domestic versions go a little OTT as far as winter add-ons are concerned. Guess I'll make a point of seeing if the relay energises one freezing morning.
