Waterboxers - Coolant - Read or Regret

Many will known this as several threads over the years, but newbies and folk with deep pockets need the reminder! If you've got a Waterboxer watercooled flat four of the 1980's, go out and immediately change the coolant and then do it every 2 years. That will cost you for G12+ compatible coolant (again many threads) about £40 a time and a few hours of draining, flushing, refilling and bleeding, but that's a lot cheaper than a rebuild or recon engine when the head studs corrode and snap. And they will if you neglect this - guaranteed! I've been there and done it having been lax in renewing the coolant over 10 years even though it looked perfect and had proper VW G11/G12 top-ups. I've had to rebuild including getting 8 studs removed (near impossible - posted topic some months ago) and then time consuming, careful and and parts costly rebuild. So off you go then, you know it makes sense - and at present Euro Car Parts have a 25% discount so their Triple QX red antifreeze G12+ compatible comes out at £27 for 2 x 5 litre containers.
