Heater Flap Sealing Material - any modern alternatives?

Hi All

Has anyone managed to find a modern alternative to the thin crumbling foam that is used to seal the flaps in the heater box. I know that I am going to need to replace it all when a new motor goes in so was looking to update. Would perhaps 2mm neoprene sheeting do a better job or do I need to stick (sic) with foam?

Any bright ideas out there? :idea

Neoprene sounds good to me. Only other thing that comes to mind is to cut up a hot water bottle. Cheap in £1 shops.

Neoprene would be far too stiff as the flaps do not seal with much weight..
A modern rubber foam draft excluder would be perfect.

Even better, and miles of it available at local £1 shops. :D Mind you. I wouldn't want to rely on that self-adhesive stuff. Dries out eventually. A little evo stik may be needed.

Watch this space Lads.

I have ordered a metre of this neoprene foam which sounds ideal. Hopefully have it in a day or so and can let you know whether it is suitable. However, fitting wont be done for a few weeks yet.

I did almost every flap with the window draft excluder. Was fine!

Just a little concerned that a cheap foam draught excluder is likely to follow the road of the original, ending up perished and crumbly. Hence looking for the modern, hopefully longer lasting, alternative.

I mean, I don't want to be doing the job again in another 20 years, do I! :rollin

The neoprene foam shown in the listing above arrived today and I can only say that it appears to be ideal. I can update you in 20 years as to whether it lasts any better than the original.......
