Wipers blowing fuse

When I use my wipers, it blows the fuse after a few seconds. They are really slow too.
I've had a search on the forum and reckon it sounds like the spindle mechanism is the culprit and needs a bit of greasing.
Can I get to this without removing the dash?
Haynes says remove instrument cluster and glovebox, but my can doesn't have a glovebox.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?
Much appreciated

Very likely you'll need to remove dash, although to be fair it looks more daunting than it actually is. You could try removing front seats and laying on your back but access is limited like that. On the other hand, you could see it as an opportunity to replace washer pipes and possibly heater blower if you have one. There are a LOT of jobs you can do easily with the dash out.

Where Haynes says "remove steering column" - ignore that. Just remove steering wheel, switches, bolts that hold column under dash and just lay it down with seat removed. Rest is fairly straightforward once you've moved the screws holding dash in.
