throttle valve on 2.1 injection automatic

I have T25 campervam 2.1 injection automatic which runs OK but when I took a close look in the engine compartment I noticed a spring (heavy) hanging loose from the back of the bodywork/frame which I think should be attached onto the top arm on the throttle valve (perhaps not), I attached it and it made the throttle heavy to work. That said, the lower arm on the throttle valve should have a light spring attached to it according to the Haynes manual and the Vanagon manual, but mine as none.
I don't know what either arm does but I assume they are there for a purpose. The manual shows a rod type linkage going to the top arm and a light spring to the lower arm. I include a photograph of my van's engine compartment. If anybody as the same van and can offer advice I would appreciate it or knows about these things, again please get in touch.

It must be a very small picture. As i cant see it.

I put a spring on mine where i think you are describing. As the accelerator pedal was not returning properly.Causing the engine to rev its gonads off.A pretty scary thing to happen on an auto.

Rob, the spring you added I assume it was to the lower arm? Is it a standard size spring and were does it attach at the other end? And is there a bar/arm or linkage to the upper arm also? As I say, the manuals doesn't really explain the set up (it expects all the parts to be there, when they are not it's a bit awkward), they just refer to the throttle linkage and the kick down arm.
I better point out that this is my first automatic, although that's probably pretty obvious.

The spring i added was where the top one on yours is.

The spring I have on in the photograph and now removed after a 20 mile round trip is possibly too strong/heavy. When I drove the van it was hard work controlling the amount of pressure I could apply to the pedal. Hopefully I can put something lighter so I could ease the accelerator pedal. What did you put on yours? Have yoy a photograph?
If your spring is on the top arm, is there anything on the lower arm?

hi,Ive just been looking at mine today(before i read this),ive got a s-pring on the botom, but nothing on the top i wondered if there was something missing from the top myself. The problem with my van is its ticking over high when hot,i thought/think that the throtle lijnkage is sticking open a bit as when i pushed it a bit the revs droped so i think il put another spring on like yours to see if it will pull it shut.Let me know please if you manage to get a spring and where you get it from.

dbz864 - you say you have a spring on the lower arm, but where does the spring attach at it's other end?

Hi mate,
this is how my 2.1 auto is rigged, the spring goesto a hook on the air intake/plenum (highlighted in red).
Ignore the nut in the middle, my spring broke and this was holding it together.

It looks a very clean engine.

It is a very clean engine.
I too am missing top spring and have over revving issues sometimes.
Did anyone finally answer the question of where to get one from or where the other end attaches.
