Wondering if anyone could help

My battery needs replacing (1.7D T25 1989). The knackered battery is 540 cold staring 64 amp hours. Tried loads of websites etc but cant get a battery with the exact same amp hours. Also Checked the wiki but am a bit stumped.

Am not hot on electrics etc so apologies beforehand here, but is there a limit on what amp hours battery you can use i.e would say a 68 amp hours be ok as a replacement for a 64 amp hour? Or do you have to replace like for like? Or as the van is twenty odd years old could replacing the battery with one with more amp hours potentially lead to other problems?

i take it your battery is in the engine bay, if so you can fit what you want, you can get 84ah/88ah from the batteryman (google) for about 50 quid, unlike the petrol engines have them under the front seats so size is important to them.

Euro car parts generally offer some good deals on batteries and I believe there Winter special offer code may still apply. I find you can haggle a deal with them anyway. My local branch is always very helpful. Avoid Halfords!

Halfords batteries are very good quality (think they are still made by Yuasa for them), and they do the bosch silver as well, If you're going to buy from euro then avoid the Lion batteries, Bosch and Exide are good though I agree that halfords ones are expensive - unless you've got a trade card or know someone with one the one I bought for my van was over £100 retail, I got it for £55

Fitting a higher capacity battery is absolutely fine, infact a bigger battery is a bonus as it has more power in reserve for those difficult cold morning starts.
There are no problems associated with fitting a more powerful battery other than the physical size restriction that it brings (if you have enough space)
Diesels have their starting battery fitted in the engine bay and space is much more generous and less restrictive so if this were my van I would be looking at something around the 72amp mark...battery code 096 or 100 with cold cranking amps around 650.

If you go on the Euro Car Parts website the two battery codes they recommend are the 065 and 100...the 065 are the lower capacity options, the code 100 are the higher capacity options..I would go for the latter.#

They are made by Johnson Controls the makers of Varta and Bosch batteries. You only need their HB range, the HBC batteries are over spec for our older charging systems.
