Hi

Are there different mounting points on the chassis for diesel/petrol engines

Reason I ask is that I picked up a tow bar that seller says came off a t25 but the cradle that goes under the engibe and bolts up forward of the gearbox bolts up exactly where the engine mount bars are attached and I cant see how they would locate....


Will try to post a photo tomotrrow - all photos I have seen of other t25 tow bars are just attached to the chassis rear of the engine

I may cut off the under engine cradle and only it at the rear as Im not towing caravans - just a bike rack and small box trailer

Sounds like you've got a non-factory/aftermarket (non-Westfalia) tow bar. It might even be home-made. I'd think twice before modifying it as the MOT man may not like the look of it and fail you next time. Since the tow bar became part of the MOT test, maybe you'd be better off selling it on and getting one that's correctly designed for the engine in your van?
I recently had to find a Westy one as I'm sure they won't pass the unbranded one on the bus next time, even though it's well made.

I looked under a petrol van today and its obvious that diesel engines have different mounting points than petrol, ( - exactly where this one would bolt up to the chassis

Its a factory made one and very well made too - I think i will sell it on as theres more of a market for Petrol ones - or maybe swap it with my local friendly VW scrappers as a diesel tow bar will sit on the shelf a long time so he might go for it,

Saw this relating to towbars - You are right about they may not like it if I start chopping it about to fit - will pass it on and get one that is made to fit my van - unbranded sees ok tho as long as it meets criteria set out in the MOT guide below

Happy camping - a trailer will enable me to take more stuff not to use
