I really feel the cold (too many meds) and up until now have used a heavy sleeping bag.

I was wondering if using a duvet will give me a better nights sleep. The down side is the dampness. Do duvets absorb more moisture then sleeping bags?
I was going to get the very cheap Argos double duvet based on the fact its hollowfibre filled and polycotton shell.
My van gets quite damp at night so need something that keeps me warm and doesnt get damp.

We use a sleeping bag downstairs an a feather duvet in the pop top. Have slept up top in -9c and been warm enough.

Thermals & a sleeping bag if I'm on my own, and a duvet if I've got company.

Sounds like you need to insulate the van better...

Could you run to fitting a Propex heater, that really would make your nights in the van a luxury

Would it, though? An uninsulated van on a cold night will just get damper, because of the increased condensation, won't it?

I know that when I used to kip in a totally bare 2cv van, it'd often start to rain inside half way through cold night - the worst was a New Year camp, when the inside of the roof was white over in the morning...

Van is pretty well insulated, roof lining, foil backed rockwall gently packed in all panels and the entire floor has thermal/ noise barrier.

No fancy curtains just pretty ones. Heater will be orderes as soon as my lottery numbers come up

I thought duck down and real cotton duvets would get pretty damp pretty quick.

Sounds reasonably well insulated, are you keeping a window (or roof vent) open?
You may consider this a negative thing to do but it would keep the air circulating, and in doing so clear the moisture from your breath out of the van. I think most folks do this.

Cannot really comment on that, but we always use real feathers, not man made quilts or pillows.

I have now bought 2 duvets. Argos value double 13.5 tog duvet and a tog 4 duvet to sleep on.

Tested them at Big bang (or big drip as it was this year) and it was the best nights sleep I have had in the camper.

I have a 3/4 RnR bed so i would recommend the tog 4 single to use as the matteresse as they measure 4ft wide - the double was a little too big.

duvet cover was a Percale weave which feel warmer then normal eqyptian cotton.

Considering the weather and that I had to resort to cooking in the van I am very impressed with the result. Much better the a 4 season sleeping bag but probably not as good as a propex heater
