Once I'm pitched up on site it's a real bugger when you realise you've forgotten the milk and there's no shop on site...

I suspect it doesn't exist but does anyone know of an index of campsites where there are amenities (village/ town / pub / pub/ pub etc) within easy walking distance so you can forget about the van ?

Get a bike rack?

Everytime I camp I always look for a pub within walking distance and a good long walk that can be started from the site.

I just use online ordnance survey maps and google to find out the information

It's more for when I'm with kids and Cocker to be honest, my youngest isn't the most confident on a bike.

UKCampsite has a good search facility with lots of criteria you can choose - except this one. Even when we camped in a tent I preferred not to bother with the car once parked up.

Good point this, that "shopping run to the village" is often a time consuming pain in the butt.

We often wonder why more of the bigger campsites don't have a little shop (I know some do) that sells all the basics along with BBQ fuel etc.

Also many rural areas have a mobile shop, but I have yet to see one pull up at a campsite, where I would have thought they would do a roaring trade ? This does happen at an annual model aircraft "do" I go to in Grantham, and it is a very busy shop when it arrives).

If you are travelling to North Norfolk you could do a lot worse than camping at Burnham Deepdale http://www.deepdalefarm.co.uk/. Dog friendly, small supermarket and a very decent cafe two minutes away, great walks coastal, good pubs - one only three minutes away, clean facilities and a bus stop for either Hunstanton or Brancaster. This genuinely is a lock-up and leave place and I love it!
