Ive since came to conclusion new cap is crap and old is ok but the sensor will not stop leaking was advised not to over tighten it and brought what I though was good one it's a febi one any hints be fore I over tighten and crack it

PTFE tape or put a THIN bead of silicone sealer around the mating surfaces. (I am trying to remember what sort of seal is used on them, "O" ring or flat gasket  )

Just a thought, the tank is not cracked / damaged is it ?
Can happen, been a post about it recently.

There's a fat O-ring seal round the sensor .... as John says I fitted ours with a bead of silicone (belt & braces  )
