Blimey, loads of questions.

Ok, here goes on a few of them:

Any tips for sticker removal guys?

Hot air gun really is the best though you can I believe get decal remover. Wire brush and sanding will just make it messy. sticky-stuff remover is also good.

Also do I need to remove the badges, boot locks, door handles etc,

I removed locks but then they go back on easy. Also gives you opportunity to respray or colour-match them.

And is it leagal to drive the van without bumpers?

Yep, shouldn't be a problem

Brilliant news about the bumpers being okay to drive around with removed. They are off now until all the paintwork is done.
I stripped all the stickers off one side with a hair dryer and a paint scraper. Used white spirit and rag to get the glue resedue off. Man that was hard work. Just need to do the other side now.

With the sickers off now I an see that there is a small crease in one of the panels. It looks like I am going to have to master the art of body filling as well. I'll leave that for annother thread, but this painting with a roller stuff really throws up all sorts of issues that inexperienced folk like me have never even thought of doing myself. Hey ho......

Freeda is looking a little sad right now with bumpers missing and bits of Vatcan splodged on her tender flanks. Hopefully my efforts will start to see her look better.

Re Colour matching Rustoleum paints.

I've been in touch with Redrose paints and asked if they can match to a VW paint code, they said no unless I can match my code to

NCS, BS4800, BS381C or RAL? Does anyone know if this is possible to match Vw Ivory (1983 colour) L567 i think to one of those codes? Many thanks. Tim

does anyone know what temps combi can cope with?

thinking of using some on a watercooled engine block...hammerite works so im guess combi will

any ideas /thoughts?

try avenue paints , they claim to be able to match to vw colours

WD40 and paint thinners also work too

Hi, I got 5l of combi off the bay for cheap so nearly ready to go. Two questions first i'm hoping someone might be able to help with. Has anyone ever got a matting agent to add to the paint. And on the wiki it says the paint has UV protection but i can't find any evidence of this in the info.

Would not advise Rustoleum be used on an engine block - not what it was designed for and neither is Hammerite really although I too have got away with it on engine blocks. Why not use a paint designed for that job - many available out there.

Ok guys i seem to have mastered the problems with the bubbles Now i was just wondering if i could maybe do 2 coats before the flatting out procedure instead of flatting between every single coat?

im sure it would be fine just let each coat dry first

Hi all,
Has anyone with a White van ( pastel white L90 ) found a nice white rustoleum to cover it ?
I used Ral 9010 and don't like it; added some yellow and hate it.
Any ideas? The van is a 1986 Autohomes (god, it's so long since i posted on here that i've forgotten what van it is!)
er oh yes a Kamper ! so there is a white GRP top part beneath the black roof-that-always-leaks, so whether a nice cream or ivory would look ok I dunno.

....having sorted the van we've just been using it-- off to climb Arkle and Foinaven on Thurs this week, van has been BRILLIANT for skiing in Cairngorms this fabulous winter.

I had the same problem too

Go slower with the roller? I used a similar method of painting using a marine paint called "International Toplac" when I built a boat several years ago. The method I used was to thin the paint, roller it on pretty quick so as to keep the wet edge and at the same time remove the roller marks. Running the roller over it verrrry lightly and fairly slowly with just the "damp" roller seemed to remove most of the bubbles. If any were left, I went over the paint extremely lightly with a good quality brush...just heavy enough to pop the bubbles....its called "tipping it off". Not sure if it applies with this particular paint though. Hope this helps.
