jebiga41 wrote:Alright Cooper my advice and another option would be to get yourself a nice post 85 2wd camper that will be in your budget enjoy it, and learn about fixing T3's, go to festivals (you don't need a Syncro for that) visit your mates, come to some Syncro events have a go in some of ours and learn more about Syncro's and recovery equipment and their uses, save up some more money and either
A buy a donor to convert your 2wd to Syncro
B get a Syncro box with a locker and fit it along with big tyres (that will get you out of most situations )
C sell your 2wd and buy a Syncro
Syncro box and locker?

Oops sorry a locking Syncro gearbox (rear locker is in the gearbox) this would give you the G gear and the ability to lock up the rear wheels that and a set of Offroad tyres at the back and maybe a lift will get you through nearly everything a symcro would (Andy Simpson proved that at SP a few years ago) although a good locking Syncro gearbox is going to set you back about £1000. As before get a camper and enjoy it over the summer and worry about upgrading later. Realistically if you don't have enough money to buy a good Syncro, you don't have enough money to go overlanding to places that only an expedition van would go to. Get on the road and in a while when you have more money then think about upgrading and don't be saddled with something that will bankrupt you, break your heart and eventually sell at a loss because you can't afford to repair/run it. Plus it'll give us a project to think about/advise on and sell parts to you for

Cooper wrote:I have seen loads of syncros in germany. And its no problem to get a my dad to go there and get it but he dont know about the syncros and my worry is that i dont want to buy a totally crap one. And if the mot aint the same over there what do i do?
Two of my Syncros came off e bay, bought sight unseen and both have been good 'uns. Anyway if you are going to tour around the middle east and the Alps then you need a left hand drive vehicle.

Hey I have had 2wd vans for 20yrs, joined the 80-90's where info and help is always there
Decided I wanted a challenge after meeting some great Syncro owners and spent the next year going to meets, being a passenger and getting the chance to drive other syncros . . . I definately needed to do this before I committed to buying a syncro . . . you check out the cost of running and whether you really want to drive down a mountain (and up again in all conditions)

Come along to a meet, everyone is friendly and helpful

Would concur with Max (and being partly responsible for her Syncro addiction

) , for you I think it's definately the way to go come along to an event (you will have to make tea, Max started that!)and check out the vans and whether you want one. As I said previously I would personally start with a 2wd (you can still come along to the events) and if you feel you do want a syncro then take your time look at the various options discussed it took me at least 6 months to find mine.

Does that mean I can put a claim in against you Paul for loss of earnings since purchasing my syncro
Definately try and come along to April meet before making any decisions

(and make tea

)
